i would expect the laptop to beep when the ram is removed and powered on, ,,,,,,but i,m not familiar with this model,,
a hardcore reset seems my only option today,,,,

i also have an nec m300 2ghz , which has a intermittant ram slot fault,,poor contacts,,,this laptop beeps when the ram makes poor contact with the slot,,,,
thats why i bought this d7830 laptop off ebay as complete, but "untested",,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh dear

(1 hour later)
I have discovered that the d7830 processor only gets hot while the laptop is on its side,(left side down), when i place the laptop on its right side, the cpu gets cold, I can do this a few times before the laptop shuts down, ,,,,,bizarre?,,,,,,,,,
So now I,m stripping the laptop down, ,,,the base plastic trim is removed,,,how do I remove the metal plate? please

some models want to remove the display to see the motherboard. probably you must disassemble the display's plastics

The metal plate is free, but only at the screen hinge side, so I dont think removing the screen plastics will do any good

I think a new forum is needed An-Dr.Zej, called "D7830 Motherboard Removal/Ausbau?", jetz gehts los...

vielen dank an alle das mir auf diese Beitrag geholfen probiert hatte,

I will come back to this forum when I can get at the motherboard

But really, in some types of books its necessary to remove the plastics, but i just cant remember what book it was. why dont you try? When you have removed all screws and you cant disassemble it, theres only that way. will look for the thread where it is written in...
could take some minutes

Maybe so with other laptops, but the D7830 metal plate does come off when you remove the dvd drive..

Now I could not find any loose screws but the laptop should boot with cpu, ram and grafiks,,,,,,,but it doesn,t....

See pictures of laptop,,,,,,the fans are spinning, but the camera is quicker than the fans

If anyone has any idea what is going on please drop a line,,Dr?

The motherboard has been totally removed, ,,and nothing appears to be loose, damaged,,,no burn marks, ,,,,I then replaced the motherboard and it is exactly the same,,,,,the laptop starts,,,,,but the cpu stays cold unless I turn the laptop on its side,,,,not any side, just the left hand side,,,,

any theories?

well 2 days later and it seems that i,m on my own

I,m convinced i can hear a small tinkle from the cpu socket when i carefully turn the motherboard around????or do i imagine this, can i remove the top of the cpu socket???HOW DO I REMOVE THE TOP OF THE CPU SOCKET

The laptop mother board is now working fine,

The cooler was stuck to the cpu,,,,the thermal grease had dried out???
After removing the cpu from the cooler with force, (being carefull not to bend the pins),,,the cooler was cleaned and polished with metal polish,
the cpu was also cleaned until it was like new,
A light smear of new thermal grease and now everythings great,,,,
however I dont have the driver fo the mobility grafics card yet,,,
ati radeon x9000,,,

and i have no sound??

just driver issues i think,,,,

So dont scrap your mobo,,,,,try a good clean of the cpu to heatsink interface...

CHUSS,,,, :P
