I don't see why a installation via internet is simpler? Why not simply install from DVD (less time) and then update.

I use Fedora 8 and never had problem so far with my Amilo 3438 except for temperature control (FSC Bios problem) and the mechanical sound wheel. If he can't install from optical media I highly doubt it will work better over the internet - because the general settings like ACPI/APM which can cause issues are there too.

Well, for me with FSC Amilo Xa-2528/24P it's the only way since UBUNTU and others don have the latest kernal (so I've heard). I have tried with Ubuntu (6.10, 7.04, 7.10 in x86, 64bit and ALTERNATIVE mode but also SYSTRESCCD, DSL, COROONA and others).

I need to use www.instalinux.com or wubi to install LINUX (Ubuntu, Suse and others) on my computer... or install FEDORA 8 or SLACKWARE.
FSC Amilo 2528/24P (AMD Turion X2 TL-64, 2GB, 2.2 GHz, Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS 256MB, 2x160 GB HDD).
