Does it recognize the partition you made? How did you create the partition? With any special tools, or with the built in Vista partitioning programm? For what was the HDD used before? Was there installed any other OS? Is the Disk Empty? You need to give some more information, otherwise its hard to help you.
Or is the problem, that Vista didnt even found any HDD? If thats the problem, you have git to infix the Sata Driver.

When I bought the laptop there was no OS installed, so first I tried Windows XP, but it said that there was NO hard disc at all. I tried with Ubuntu, and I succeeded installing it, so now I am on Ubuntu 8.04. With the Partition Editor (Ubuntu's) I also made 1 NTFS partition (because I wanted to install Windows), so now my HDD is divided like this: 1 ext2, 1 swap partition and 2 NTFS partitions. Today I tried installing Vista, when it comes to choosing the partition to install, it lists these 4 partitions, I chose one NTFS partition for installing, I press next but then it says 'Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation', and I am unable to continue. I also tried deleting the partition and making a new one with Vista's built in partitioning program.
But my guess is that the problem is the last one you mentioned - it seems I have to infix the Sata driver. But I don't know how. So please will you help me and tell me how to do it.

Thank you in advance.

Ok, you cant delete the Ubuntu Partition with the Vista partitioning program. Because Vista is unable to delete primary partitions. I would say, format the whole HDD when you dont need Ubuntu. How to format, you should know.
XP needs the SATA drivers, you get from FSC-Site, also you need a diskette / floppy drive for this operation. Whe the Xp setup starts push F6 when Windows setup is reading the files.
Vista seems to recognize your HDD, theres no driver needed. You should be able to install it out of the box.
My tip: Erase the whole HDD, and install, whatever you like.

No I want to keep the Ubuntu, but I also want to install Vista. Can you tell me what to do with the drivers from the FSC site? Can I use a USB flash memory? (I am have never done smth like this, maybe it is trivial but please tell me step-by-step what to do with the drivers)

Uh thats hard now. Where should I begin?
Ok, you cant take a USB Flash Drive for XP, it wouldnt be recognized by in the installation setup. You need to have a Diskette Drive. How to infix it there, is easy. When there is written "Press F6 to...." you need to press F6. Then you choose the sata driver from the floppy.
Try it, if you have questions, you have to tell us.
How to bring Vista on your HDD: i dont know how to fix the problem, that you cant install it on the Hard drive.
But I will delete the HDD, install Vista, then Ubuntu. Because Vista will overwrite otherwise the bootloader of ubuntu.
For deleting the Harddisk try a Linux live CD.

I I downloaded the SATA drivers from the FSC site, I extracted the zip archive to the usb, and I tried again (at the partition selection page I clicked on 'install driver' and I pointed to the usb) but it says there are no drivers :S

the sata driver:

I have also bought a Xi2550. On my Xi2550 Vista was preinstalled. My Xi2550 has 2 hdds.
I made the mistake, not to create a recovery dvd before partitioning the hdds according to my ideas. So when I wanted to install Vista after having installed Ubuntu 8.04 I had the problems you described.

I succeeded by doing the following: I also installed RAID controller JMB36X during installation process. Download:
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/down ... Controller

I saved both drivers on an CD. You can save the drivers also on a USB flash drive. Read here how to install additional drivers (saved on CD/DVD oder USB flash drive) during the Vista installation process: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/installing ... rivers.htm

If you want to install Vista and XP have a look at http://www.amilo-forum.com/topic,26,-In ... -FAQs.html
(SATA/RAID driver integration via XP-Iso-Builder/nLite pre installation), post,138160.html#p138160 and http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/200 ... led-first/

I have written a report according Ubuntu 8.04 on Xi2550. Have a look at topic,23519,-Ubuntu-8-04-auf-Amilo-Xi2550-Tipps.htm
