Amilo M-6300 dead after BIOS update

Beitragvon bennedbaek » 09.08.2005 20:59

Hi all,

I have tried to update BIOS in my Amilo M-6300 using the update found on the FSC website. Unfortunately it failed to work, and now the laptop is completely dead. I suspect that the update I downloaded isn't working at all, but the FSC helpdesk tell me that they don't have any other files I can try.

So, does anybody have a working BIOS update lying around for this laptop (M-7300/M-8300 use the same BIOS)? Or the ability to make a backup image of the BIOS you are using?

Any help is greatly appreciated (also in German if you don't like writing in
English). I will also be interested in buying a faulty motherboard with a
working BIOS.

Thanks,
Jesper

Hi,

first off all, can you send me a link to the BIOS-file you've used? Then I can see if I find an other one.

BTW: How do you want to reanimate your Notebook with a new BIOS-file if it doesn't work at all at the moment?

This is the BIOS update I have downloaded:

http://tinyurl.com/cp9r9

I do realise that reprogramming the BIOS probably has to be done the hard way, i.e.:

1. Unsoldering the BIOS chip from the motherboard
2. Programming the chip in an EPROM burner with a *working* BIOS image file
3. Soldering the BIOS back in the motherboard
4. Hoping that I didn't break anything in the process...

I contacted an FCS approved service centre here in Denmark, but the only repair they would do was to replace the motherboard for a price in excess of 400 Euro!

BTW: The BIOS file on the FCS website is actually the flash utility and the BIOS image compiled into one .exe, so it's not possible to extract the BIOS image alone - unfortunately.

Okay.

You can take this BIOS-File
Download here
It's for the Lifebook C-1010, but this model and the M-6300 are absolutely indentically constructed.

With this tool downloaded you can create an update floppy disk. On this floppy disk you can find the bios file.

Thanks, but...

I've unpacked the file you gave me a link to. It contains the file F_V123.EF3, which I would then assume is the BIOS file.

However, opening it in a text editor reveals that it is remarkably similar to the .exe I mentioned before. It even has exactly the same file size, so I tried renaming this new one to an .exe as well. It turns out that it is in fact a DOS application and not a raw BIOS image file. Hence, no good in an EPROM burner :(

Any other bright ideas?

Jesper

Perhaps you can buy a programmed bios chip at this vendor:

Brilliant! I've been looking for something like that, and it looks like they have what I need.

I've already placed an order, but there were no payment instructions (or maybe I've missed something in translation). Do you know how it works?

Thanks,
Jesper
