li 1718 CPU Upgrade HELP!!!

Beitragvon greenwoo » 12.03.2013 01:27

 I have AMILO li1718 with 1.66 t2300E 533 Core Duo CPU and 2x512 ddr2-4200 533 RAM

ordered 2x1024 ddr2-5300 667 RAM but still want a CPU upgrade ...
t5600 or t7200 are my options .. but i'm not sure if the are compatible
both these CPU's are Core 2 Duo Socket M 667 ... it means that they are compatible in theory
i found out that li1718 actually can be equipped with a t5600
PROOF *see attachment*
googled a lot and didnt find anyone to actually upgrade to this CPU neither to t7200

both t5600 and t7200 are socket compatible to t2300E but there is no proof that Phoenix BIOS 1.9 supports them

I BEG YOU FOR AN ADVICE! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Some people on Ebay say that t6500 runs smoother than t7200 also the last one overheats alot. What do you think ? :P

I seriously doubt that a successful upgrade to the Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 is possible.
After all, the T6500 is a Socket P CPU with 200 MHZ FSB, whereas the Li 1718 supports Socket M CPUs with up to 166 MHz.
Besides, where do you find this information in the above screenshot...?

On the other hand, if the chipset runs a T5600, it will also handle CPUs up to the T7600 without a hitch,
as they are birds of a feather, and just differ in the number of multipliers for higher clocks.

I misspelled t5600 for t6500 ))
That screenshot was from fujitsu support forum.
I wrote to tech support and got this reply:

CPU: Intel® Celeron® M processors with 533MHz FSB:
- Celeron® M 430 / 1.73GHz / 1MB 2nd level cache
- Celeron® M 440 / 1.86GHz / 1MB 2nd level cache
- Celeron® M 520 / 1.6GHz / 1MB 2nd level cache
Intel® Pentium Dual Core™ processor with
533MHz FSB
- T2060 / 1.6GHz / 1MB 2nd level cache
Intel® Core™ Duo processors with 533 MHz FSB
- T2350 / 1.86GHz / 2MB 2nd level cache
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processors with 667MHz FSB
- T5300 / 1.73GHz / 2MB 2nd level cache
- T5500 / 1.66GHz / 2MB 2nd level cache

And this SUCKS! Because tech support messes arroud with important information.

t5600 was introduced also for socket M I have found it and can buy it. 30$ And it is in the list on the screenshot.
I am confused. I checked ... my own socket is mPGA479m and my currents CPU is "SL8VR" which is M socket also

t7200 is theoretecly compatible but there is another question ... if the BIOS supports it. I am having seasures now )

Trust me. The bios doesn't care one way or the other about the CPU speed and the CPU ID (name)
as long as the CPU is electrically compatible. And the T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400, T7600 all stem from the same family
Socket M Merom Core2Duo CPUs with 166 MHz FSB (all have the same TDP).
The same goes for the T2400, T2500, T2600, T2700 (Yonah Core, again all the same TDP) variants.
Bios doesn't give a flying **** about the speed of the actual CPU inserted, all it cares is whether it knows how to
control the CPU speed via EIST, and it does, as it knows how to run T5500 and T5600, for example....

Ok the thing is ... i got FOR FREE an BROKEN AMILO li1718 1gb ram 667 with a t2300 (Keyboard doesnt work, it didnt have an hdd, dvdrw, most of covering panels were missing ... a broken plastic display back cover (don't know how but the display itself is fine ... half dead AC ... and a burned out LAN port) ... i found also for free the power box and attached this half-notebook to a 22' monitor ... so this is my stationary PC for now :) However i found a seller ... he sells an ideal li1718 with a dead mainboard  for 48 bucks ) ... it has 2 gb 667 ram but unfortunately a 553 CPU 1.86 ... so for 48 USD i get a fully working good looking li1718 with 2gb ram 667 and a t2300 .... the question was if i can modd it with a better core 2 duo cpu ... i found out THAT I CAN thanks to the previous post .... but i am not sure which one to pick .... t7200 or t5600 i know about the 4m cache ... but people say that there is no big effect ... and that the t7200 will be overheating ... what do you think about it ? DOES IT EVEN WORTH IT ? Because i know .. and BELIVE ME I noticed a BIG amilo li1718 flaw on a 22'' screen .... express 200m video card is a piece of s**t ... but still .... should i buy either of these cpu's or not ... will t7200 or t5600 make my notebook noticibly faster ?

Any noticeable speed increase you get from upgrading from a T2300 to lets say a T7200 will be very marginal at best when we are looking at
normal office tasks like MS word/excel, browsing the web, burning a DVD, doing some light photo-editing, copying files from here to there, starting programs, boot-up times and so on.

When we are talking about watching HD video content, then a possible upgrade might make sense, as a faster CPU will help compensate the crappy performance of the express 200M, as it has more capacity to take over computational tasks, but whether or not fluent HD videos are possible with this video card at all, I don't know. Maybe you can shed some light on this question?

Also, of course, in tasks where raw computational power is needed, such as conversion of video files, compressing/decompressing of files, etc., you will benefit from a faster CPU, but whether or not the speed increase is worth any extra costs remains a matter of testing.

As far as gaming performance is concerned, I think we don't even have to talk about that, the Ati 200m is too weak for any reasonable gaming,
and a faster CPU won't change that.

Overheating certainly won't be an issue, the TDP increase is marginal from 31W to 35W, the cooling system will have
enough headroom to handle that.

So it all comes down to the question "what do you want to use the laptop for?". If you are looking for faster performance all across the board, and a "snappier" feel in general, then shoot for a faster hard drive. If you have gripes with poor HD video replay, you could try a bigger CPU, but it might not satisfyingly solve your problem. Depends on what we are talking about...

Thank you very much for answering my questions again :) Forgive me please for bad english ... for i'm actually Russian.

I'm planning to use this Notebook for a year or so. I will not use it for gaming first of all beacuse it is impossible to run something modern ... second because i'm a student and really don't have any time for that (besides that i can always go for old games such as warcraft 3, CS 1.6 and so on). I will use office programs such as MatLAB, AutoCAD, all of MS Office, Photoshop maby and Web surfing where is skype, chrome, utoorent ... also i wath a big lot of movies. The system i use is Win XP Sp3 (tweaked and inlightened by myself .. oppose to Vista Home which came stock) with latest (some of them modded) drivers and system BIOS.

The performance enhancement i want is these programs to WORK FASTER. The jump will be (as you already know) from 1gb ram t2300 (Core duo 2MB L2 Cache) to 2gb ram t7200 (Core 2 Duo 4MB L2 Cache). All i want is a less glitchy system. I now even use skype 4  oppose to 6 to harvest more performance. And fullscreen youtube clips come slideshowish on 22'' 1680x1050. (however Media Player shows a perfect picture opposing to Kmplayer or Daum that sometimes get slideshowish on downloaded movies mabe because of better codecs) The original display that i'll install will be 15,4'' 1.280x800 so as is everything will be a little easyer and smoother for the 200m.

What interested me in your last reply the most is where did you get this info that CPU power can help out the GPU lack ? I actually never heard of this. How does this coop work ?

Well, the 200m doesn't support native HD decoding, so this task must be performed by the CPU. And here, a faster CPU will translate to more FPS
(possibly also depending on player codec/playback software).
