Amilo Li3710 BIOS and CMOS RAM

Beitragvon datagram » 15.03.2017 23:01

I have already asked this question to Fujitsu Technical Support but they haven't answered. I have a Amilo Li3710 notebook. Its motherboard is Quanta DA0EF7MB6D1. I would like to learn where the BIOS and CMOS RAM located, with a picture (or their characteristic product names would be just ok too). Unfortunately there is no BIOS section in its motherboard schematics, so I can't get the product name. I wanted to buy its motherboard boardview. But all the sellers have asked PayPal payment. Unfortunately there is no PayPal service to my country. So, I couldn't buy it. Around these days I will open my notebook so I need this information. I would very much appreciate your answer. Sorry that my German isn't so good to ask in German.

I've found two quite ok pictures of a DA0EF7MB6D1 mainboard, one of its upside [1] and one of its underside [2]. Now, these pictures aren't perfect, but it seems to me like there is no chip on the underside that might be a BIOS chip.
On the upside I see three potential candidates. The one on the right side, labeled with "ITE", seems to be the keyboard controller (probably also including some ACPI functions) while the one on the left labeled with "TST1284-V" turns out to be the ethernet controller. That leaves the chip in the middle right between CPU socket, PC-Card and SD slot. Unfortunately I can't decipher its label. But from its shape alone I'd think it's a likely candidate for a BIOS chip.

Thank you very much for the answer and the pictures. I appreciate it very much. Let me ask another question. Is CMOS RAM which is powered by CMOS battery a seperate chip or embedded or included in another chip?

I believe it's all in the same chip. But that's really just belief, because as far as I can tell I've never seen a different implementation.
Then again, I'm by no means a BIOS chip expert. Maybe user "hecki" can give you more detailed information. He's the BIOS expert in this forum. I'm not sure if he's still active, but sending him a PN sure won't hurt.

@hikaru. Thank you very much again. As you have advised, I wanted to send a PM to "hecki." But it doesn't go. You say PN, what is that? I rarely use forums, would you please direct me?

You're welcome!

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if new users can send PMs at all.

Sorry! ;)
"PN" is the german acronym for "PM" ("private Nachricht").

I just sent a PM to hecki on your behalf.

Hi @ all,

I'm still actice.

Two questions - two answers.

1. BIOS chip: Usually there are SEEPROMs for BIOS on Board. SEEPROM=Serial Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. They are used on newer Boards since about 2005. SEEPROMS on mainboards are manufactured by Macronix, Winbond, SST and a lot more. They have this syntax of name: 25..[size] i. e. MX25L1605 (Macronix=MX 16 MBit=2 MByte), W25Q80 (Winbond 8 MBit=1MByte). The name differs between the manufacturers, there is no unique name. It is a 8 pin chip and a little larger than these MOSFET switching Transistors in a 8 pin case.
2. C-MOS: The C-MOS is integrated in the RTC-Chip, as usual. On modern boards the RTC is a integrated controller chip with RAM and ROM. It is sensless searching for it... You can't change anything without a special program for programming that neither on nor off board. But resetting is still possible by removing (or short circuiting) the C-MOS battery.

Notebooks often don't start if the C-MOS battery is exhausted. Sometimes an exchange helps easily...

Some boards have no battery but a little soldered LiION-accumuilator - look at the description and then google it :-) . They also don't live forever...

I hope I could help a little bit.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen aus dem hohen Norden

@hikaru and @hecki. A lot of thanks to hikaru for the answers and mediation to find "hecki." Also, a lot of thanks to "hecki" for clearing out the question.
