Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi1554 - SSD Samsung EVO 860

Beitragvon agiakoum » 21.09.2018 12:24

Hallo!
Sorry for writing in this forum in English, but unfortunatelly I don't speak German!
I'm trying to install an SSD Samsung EVO 860 in a Fujitsu - Siemens Amilo Xi 1554.
The thing is that the SSD is not even recognised from BIOS. Do you have any ideas
on how I would be able to make i work? Has anyone succeeded in doing so?
There are sites in the internet that are claiming that EVO 860 is compatible with Amilo Xi 1554.
Thank you in advance for your help!

The Xi 1554 uses a RAID controller for the HDDs. According to [1], it is a "VIA VT6421A", which is also installed in the older "Mx43xG" series. These M series laptops are known for being picky about which HDDs work and which don't, because apparently they have a faulty SATA version detection algorithm.
The general conclusion seems to be that one needs a drive which is able to fall back to the "SATA 1" standard, which I guess is not true for modern SSDs. However, at least some older SSDs seem to be able to do that. In [2] @TheChemist reports that an "Intenso TOP III" works, and according to @crazytv, a Samsung 840 Evo works too.

So I suggest you search for some older SSD and try that one.

Hello!!
Thank you for your reply and please accept my apologies for my late reply.
Now I'm facing a new issue: i tried to update bios and during the procedure it rebooted by it self and now the problem is (the same with and without AC, and also with AC-only and battery removed) after pressing 'power on', the power led comes on with three other leds in blue for around six seconds. Then there is an audible click, the leds go off. Three seconds later this repeats until I pull the battery out to stop it.
Is there any solution for that or laptop is permanently bricked. Do someone have any idea please?

Usually no PC is permanently bricked by a unsuccesfull BIOS-"brick"date, specially when there is life on board. First reset the C-MOS to default values by dismounting (or shortening) the C-MOS batery. It often helps - if not, try a BIOS restore. A how-to will be found in the internet. In German it is not any problem, I can give a link.
A BIOS-restore is depending on the manufacturer of the BIOS, i. e. Phoenix, Phenix-Award (the former Award), AMI or Insyde. Any questions may be posted here.

If nothing helps the BIOS can be restored by hardware repair, either exchanging the BIOS ROM to a new programmed one or reprogramming it. In case of soldered ROM an exchange isn't really simple because the old chip hast to be desoldered, the new one has to be soldered. Only well experienced in soldering SMD and with the right tools are able to do this work. You may ask me...

Hi,

you usually find the link in my signature... The website isn't really up to date, but many features of BIOSrepair are still valid. The direct link to BIOS-repair (all in German): http://www.bios-info.de/4p92x846/inrepair.htm

A good English site with a lot of informations is http://www.bioscentral.com, but I don't know if they have a guidence for bricked BIOS.

Crucial sells some SSDs that might work with your Laptop. (BX500 and MX500). I use a M1437G which has the same Problems with the Samsung Evo´s (no rocognization), since then i use an INTENSO SSD that works, but has sometimes Problems when i start up the machine (i think this SSD-device is faulty). Next will try the Crucial ones.

Look at the Crucial Website and you will find anything with their Productfinder.
