Amilo A1667 extremly hot

Beitragvon olger901 » 16.12.2005 09:35

Hi all,

I purchased an FJ Amilo A1667G yesterday, and whenever I turn on my notebook it feels kinda warm when it's idle, though I tought this was normal. However when I start a game, I can play it for like 3 minutes, and my laptop powers off.

What could be the problem?

Running Windows XP Prof SP2
Ati Radeon Mobile Catalyst 5.12
AMD Athlon 64 Mobile Processor Driver (The one that came shipped with my notebook)
Latest VIA Chipset en SATA RAID drivers.

Note that I also read the FAQ and found the following:

Though I am able to speak german, I do not speak german very well, if anyone could translate that piece of text to either dutch or english, I'd be grateful :)

Hi,
it seems, that your Heat-Fan doesnt´t work. Do your Fan is gettiing on when you start up your Notebook?
(The normal Sound is a higher Rotation-Noise that is getting slower and turns off after a few seconds).

The Translations:
F: mein amilo wird extrem heiss bzw. taktet sich ständig runter obwohl er nicht belastet wird.
"my Amilo is getting very hot and the processer is getting slow (800 Mhz)"

"Some of the 1667G Notebooks got a little black plane below the fan, that is covering the area that normaly wouldt be free to get fresh Air on your Heatpipe. Some User removed it" (I did also) "Please ask your supprt, if you are allowed to remove it)."

Sorry for my bad englich.

If you hear nothing at all, then your Heatfan isn´t working, that has to cool your Sytem.
Your NB turns off to protect the hardware.

You need a new fan. :(

Is there any way to repair the fan myself (got a good hardware knowledge) or will I need to send the notebook to Fujitsu-Siemens

You can try to repair it. I think is's O.K. when you open the Cover to have a look. Maybe you can fix a cable or something.
You also can try to update your BIOS. On the FSC Homepage you get the new one (1.05c).
But Please, when you flash it, be carefull - when your NB gets off, while you´re flashing it, you can damage it.
If you want to go for shure --> send it back.

The notebook does not poweroff in windows, it only does while gaming I also ran prime95 for 5 or 10 min (didn't have the time to run it any longer yet) however that stayed stable :?.

Yes, but the temperature is rising to high.
Your CPU won't live very long...

If it dies, I got warranty, and simply will send it back.

Also the laptop does not get extremely hot, but it's not cold/room temprature either. It's between room temprature and a little hot. (There is a word for it, but I don't know the word)

Your notebook will shutdown in Windows, too - you only have to use it longer, because the CPU has to reach its temperature limit. The life span of your CPU (and other components) decreases because of the high average temperature - but I'm very sure the CPU doesn't get a direct damage.
So you should use your warranty to let FSC fix your fan. Personally I'd open the notebook and check that the fan has power (maybe only the cable isn't connected, that would be easy to repair by yourself) - but that's a slight risk: we're not sure if and when which consequences this would have to your warranty.

Aaron

Okay, Ill call the Helpdesk then in my country, and ask if it would void warranty, and Ill ask about some details on the problem aswell, and if they can't fix it on the fly, as I am actually really in need of a notebook coming monday (at school)

BTW: I am also planning on buying extra cooling for my laptop, any reccomendations?

Ok I just contacted Fujitsu-Siemens, and there is a waiting time of 2 to 3 weeks, because of christmas busyness :( If I would send my laptop for a repair. They also wouldn't provide me with any warranty if I would check the fan myself, so thats a bad service if you'd ask me.
