Advantages & disadvantages of M1425

Beitragvon yacenty » 14.02.2005 00:44

Hi!
I'm new user from Poland and I want to buy M1425 in few days.
I've seen it in German Vobis for 1299E (price in shop not online)
Could You tell me some info about this notebook?
sorry but my German is very very bad so I can't read Your forum in German :(
How much time does notebook can works on its battery?
What about his power?
Does it has IR port? or I have to use some USB-IR adapters?
what about drivers to this machine? some special or normal from ATI and Intel are needed?
What instructions could You give me?
Is there better laptop for 1300E on the market?
Best Regards

Hi YacentY

I try to remember the most important facts :-)

Advantages:
- Centrino (fan doesn't run all the time, WLAN)
- in some models: 1024 MB RAM
- good display, widescreen (in my optinion)
- burns DVDs (Double-Layer)
- one of the best graphic chips for notebooks (9700)

Disadvantages:
- no PCI-Express
- no IrDA
- FSC doesn't publish new drivers very often (but you can use Omega drivers for ATI graphics)
- battery runtime could be better (2 to 3 hours)

A better laptop on the market? Yeah, but who could pay it :-)
No, there are some equals, I think, but they aren't really better. Of course it would be nice to have PCI Express with Centrino 2. generation, but at the moment the speed of these isn't much better.

Oh, before I forget: The support of FSC is not the best. If there are problems with the notebook, you have to give it away a llooooonng time... (at least to weeks) and maybe there are even more problems after that...

Thank You, Aaron!
I think this notebook will be ok for me.
but I've another one question: What do You think about price of this mashine (1299E)? Is't necessary to wait for Cebit 2005 for lower prices? Is't possible that Cebit make lower prices for this laptop? (My friend told me to wait but I've got time to wait:D )
Thank You for answer

1300 EUR is not a bad price. Of course it will be cheaper in future, but that's the way of life... MediaMarkt, Vobis etc. will sell mostly new notebooks, so I don't know how long and if there'll be M1425s after Cebit.
Maybe someone else knows more?
