MXM: Call to arms - Beta testers wanted!

Beitragvon Ice-tEA » 13.03.2006 16:58

Hello all,

As some of you may remember, I have been trying to break open the MXM market, and I am happy to report that I have ordered two MXM samples.

1 x 6600 128MB Type I
1 x 6600 256MB Type II

As I have discussed in a previous thread, I am looking for a person to test this. So this is a call to a arms for someone who...

* Has a x600SE or 6200, MXM based laptop
* Is well respected in this community (feedback from other members appreciated)
* Is knowledgeable over a wide range of computer topics.
* Who isn't scared to play around with different settings/drivers/bioses.
* Who is handy enough to open and close his laptop.
* WHO UNDERSTANDS THAT HE IS ACTING ON HIS OWN RESPONSABILITY.

Such a person can drop me a line at admin@mxm-upgrade.com

The deal that I propose is the following...

* I send the MXM card of his choice, free of charge.
* At his own risk, the person installs the card in his laptop.
* The person documents the entire process, both verbally and with pictures, every step he takes, be it software, mechanical, ... All picture should be transferred to me and will be used as I please.
* If no immediate succes is booked, the person is willing to work together with me to find an answer and solution.

Upon completion of this task, the tester is left with two options: return the card or buy it. In case you buy it, the price will be 100€, which will burn a hughe hole in my pocket. To compensate, the original card is returned to me.

Any takers?

Please be kind enough to post your application in this thread, so your peers may review it.

Kind regards,

Ice-Tea

Hi Ice-tEA,

I'm willing to test an 6600 in my Amilo M6453G with an x600SE. The
laptop has a Type I MXM slot.

I don't know about to make you trust in me but maybe you could take a
look at my ebay profile at
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d ... chelganxta

Personally, I'm an 20 year old student at the b.i.b. (http://www.bib.de)
which is an IT school. My personal interests concerning computers are
huge ranging from hardware tweaks and development to software
programming with several languages.

Thanks,
Sascha Kloß

Hi there Sacha,

Glad to hear! Unless I find something contradicting this, you sound perfect.

The order was payed and confirmed today, so I hope to get the shipment next week. Right after that, the card is on it's way to you.

Please acknowledge that all testing will be at your own risk. One more thing that I would like to ask: please run 3DMark before and after you perform the test.

I will keep you posted through email. Mods can close this topic if they feel like it!

Hello all,

Sorry to bump my own topic like this, but I thought I'd give y'all an update and ask another question ;)

I received my first batch. Unfortunately, the messed up a bit and send me 2 Type II cards. I'll probably get a Type I after all for Sacha, but I was wondering if there are any Amilo's out there fitted with a Type II MXM that are x600 or 6200?

... and I'm bumping my own topic again ;)

I'm aware that en English forum was launched, but I was thinking and hoping it wouild be more logical to keep this thread.

So, here's another update: my supplier has no stock of Type I cards left and he won't /can't restock them. Sascha has checked the space avaialbel and he can't fit a Type II in his laptop. So I'm back where I started.

That means the beta tester slot is open again. Please read the first post for details. The requirements are slightly redefined:

* Either a Type II owner with a x600SE or 6200 (but I don't think there are any)
* A Type I owner with a x600SE or 6200 but with a chasis that has enough place for a Type II. Sascha checked his, but it wasn't possible, even though it was pretty close.

So, once again: drop me a line!

Your notebook(or it's close brother) has been tried with a 6800. Works just fine ;)

I don't think the 7900 will fit, and I don't have it (yet).

The 6800 is a Arima Special, right?Do I have to mod anything before i can build the card in,or works it without modding the card or the mxm-bus?

No modding. I supply a set of screws that is not a perfect solution, but it works. Better make sure you keep your heatpad in tact, though.
