Uhm, that x1800 is pretty powerfull already. I strongly suggest giving it a run before even considering an upgrade. I can get some 7900GS 512MB's that should work, but I really don't think it's worth it.

Hi ICE-Tea, would the 7900GS work with the Amilo 3438, too? Without cutting some Wires and so like the X1800 in 3438

I have ordered a limited batch to perform some tests. This is an nVidia part, so I hope not to have the same problems as with the x1800 as I have already succesully tested a 7xxx card in my own 3438.

The cards of this batch are (if it works) spoken for but if you're interested I'll write you down for the next order.

Sure I am interested, but I will first wait till your compatibility test. How many would the 7900GS costs? And which type of 7xxx Card have you tested in your 3438?

I ran a full set of tests with a 7600. I'm publishing an article this weekend or so with a full set of benchmarks in my 3438 with a 6200,6600,6800 and 7600

The price will probably be around 380€ or so.

Not so expensive like the complex to install X1800 , 380€ would be OK.
If it is enough just to switch out the 6800 with the 7900 without cutting wires and so, I will buy sure one!!!

Depending on the Performance,there will probably be a 7900 in my Notebook once,too.
So it does work?Just take the old 6800 out and put the new 7900 in?What about the PSU in the M3438?Does it handle that?

Now that I've read the whole thread,there is a question in my mind.
Why do we now say,that there are other graphic cards,that work in our loved m3438 except the Geforce Go 6800 and the X1800?
In many threads before,we said that it isn't possible,didn't we?

That's the idea. The 3438 comes with a 120W PS, which is plenty. Contrary to other modular cards, MXM takes 'bulk' power from the battery/adapter directly and only relies for a small, well defined portion on motherboard power.

I hope tp test the cards next week, week after that latest.

Hi there,

I'm owner of an Amilo 1667 which as a crappy x700 card. This card has to be replaced, but I only want a new card for my mashine which works 100% without any limitations (cutting wires etc.) or thermal Problems.

I'm interested in the 7900GS but I want to know the technical specifications and the performance in comparison with a Ati X1800.

Hey Ice-Tea, didn´t talk to u for a Long time
I´ve get the Gf Go 6600 from Topkman 2 Days ago,
these Card works really Nice it was a nice upgrade - like u promised, thank u (now my M1437G is shown as "Amilo M1439 Series")

@ 2-Faces: U wanna have a 7900, without modifiy ure System??? Hm, no Chance...Same with x1800...
