Hi Pikas,

I am sorry to report that the initial information I got was slightly off... The projected x1600 is actually a x1800. I'm assuming that doesn't really spark your interest?

As for the x1800: they are Type III, the exact same format as your 3438's 6800 and as you can see on this page roughly 82mm x 100mm. On that page you can also find a link to the nVidia mechspec with more details.

Nice to hear. With a little luck, I'll have found a cheaper supplier by then ;)

Hallo Ice-tEA,

I think I buy some Ram first, in hope that there is an pricecut for the ATI cards, or probably that there is an X1600 available as choice also. As the others already stated I wait also till July or August and maybe find some friends who also want to upgrade by then.
At this point anyway I would like to thank you for your efforts.
Also I will check how much a notebook with such an Highlevelcard will need for Powersupply. I didn't find a comparison yet between the X1400, which is for low energy use, and for these other two beast.

Bye

Hi Pikas,

To make your choice a bit harder: I just found a limited supply of 7800 and 7600's, both on standard Type III MXM's.

I should be able to offer them for around 250-260 and 300-310 respectively ;)

Sorry if you have to make up your mind all over again :D

btw, I haven't gotten the cards myself yet, so I won't be able to answer any questions in detail ;)

Hmpf!
Sounds indeed good. but I don't know why, somehow I have less problems with ATI Cards. Also I never fully understand NVIDIA menues, trying to use an external DVI Monitor (32"LCD-TV set with 8ms never worked correctly)
On the other hand the performance and the price is very convincing.
You are right, now I have even more to think about.

Hi,
works the 7800 with the Amilo 3438 and when is the go7800(GTX?) available?
And what about go7900?
Core / Ram Clock?
And have you some benchmark results?

This ís a refurbished Go 7800. Don't know when I'll be getting GTX and/or 7900's. Don't know about clocks either.I'm pretty sure the thermal mounting holes will match, though.

As I said, I don't have too much information just yet.

Hallo there,

did anybody know if the memory configuration, in the means of their location on the MXM module is always the same?? Or did it differ, from module to module or from nVidia to ATI?
What size are the GPU from X1800 and 7800/7900??
Would be nice if anybody has an answer.
Thanx

The place is always the same, as defined in the spec. The only difference is that Type I's never have memory at the bottom.

0,9lo Ice-tEA

well after reading across all titles I could find on the Internet on this sujet, and after making several overclocking test with my Pi1536 (which showed me that the X1400 has an surprisingly high OC potential, and some improvements I can more or less easily do on this Laptop to reduce the heat) I came to the result that I need the newer 0,09Mikron series of cards, cause the 0,11Mi get a lot hotter, and it seems the small 15,4 Notebook might not handle it.
So the choice for a smaller notebook should be either the 7900GS or the X1800 or X1600. Concerning low energy usage, the 7900GS should be first choice. Concerning performance I cannot say anything yet.
Also I compared my 3438 with its 6800 to the Pi1536 with the X1400 running at 540/450. There I compared simply the average framerates on some games. The result was that the 6800 had roughly 2x as much frames as the X1400.
As the 7900GS and the X1800 have more grafic power than the 6800 (It is said about 50%) I can use the cards and may underclock them to save heat and still have perfect grafik.
So when you think you may have an offer for a 7900GS?

Äh sorry for my germanized english, and the neverending sentences, hope it is understandable!

Hi Pikas,

No word on the 7900GS, I'm afraid.

I dó have a 7600 on Type III here, also on a 0.09 process. That might be something for you. ;)

However, there seem to be some comaptibility problems with 3438 series notebooks when using cards from this source (Quanta/Gateway). Maybe it's ok with this notebook, but I can't be sure...

If you want to give it a go, just tell me. Be aware it might not work, tho...
