Ich hoffe ich kann hiermit helfen.
Mein Notebook ist ein Amilo M1734G und ich habe das gleiche Problem mit dem XServer gehabt.
Die Sache ist nicht schwer zu lösen. Bei mir läuft alles super und ich schreibe euch gerade diesen Beitrag von meinem Amilo unter Linux:
Ich habe in früheren Versionen von Ubuntu das Problem mit dem Vesa treiber lösen können, aber komischer weise hat das mit der neuen Version nicht geklappt.
Was ich dann getan hab war folgendes:
Boot into "recovery" im Grub Bootloader
Danach, da man als root eingeloggt ist folgendes ausführen
sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
dann zum Eintrag Driver wechseln und statt "ati"
"vga" eintragen.
Und die Bitrate auf 8 bit stellen,
wichtig, sonst gehts nicht
Nun rebooten, jetzt solltet ihr wenigstens ETWAS sehen, wenn auch sehr riesig und total unübersichtlich, aber egal.
Holt euch vorher den neuesten ATI Treiber von der ATI Homepage und ladet ihn auf nen USB Stick oder sonstiges.
Danach, ganz einfach die Datei ausführen und installieren.
Hierbei stört das riesige Display ein wenig, aber man kann mit Rechtsklick aufs Fenster und "Verschieben" trixen. Einfach mit den Pfeiltasten am Keyboard das Fenster in die Richtung verschieben in die man es braucht um alle Informationen die im Installationsfenster angezeigt werden zu sehen. (Man muss ein Häkchen setzen, ohne Verschieben is das nicht möglich)
Nach der Installation neustarten und fertig.
WICHTIG
Bei mir hat die neuinstallation der xorg.conf NICHT funktioniert!!
Der Vorgang passiert am als Abschluß der Installation.
Sollte es bei euch euch nicht funktionieren überschreibt eure alte xorg.conf einfach mit meiner.
Ich habs auch so gemacht, habe eine fertig configurierte xorg.conf für ATI Karten aus den Ubuntuforen kopiert und meine alte damit überschrieben, funktioniert tadellos.
Dazu bringt die fremde xor.conf auch wieder via einem USB Stick oder sonstigem ins System und führt im Terminal folgenden Befehl aus:
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
öffnet die fremde xorg.conf einfach mit einem doppelklick und kopiert den ganzen Inhalt der Datei vollständig über eure alte xorg.conf.
Nun müsste alles funktionieren und XServer einwandfrei laufen.
