Got some information.

Contacted a source on this.Quanta has modified their cards in such a way that they have become unuasble for other books. He quoted 'video bios modifications' but I'm not sure what to make of it. He also reaffirmed that other cards can freely be exchanged (as Pikas just prooved) between any combination of Uniwill and Arima gear.

So, it would seeml the 7800 Gateway card is doomed.

The only way out I can see is to try to boot on integrated graphics and to try flashing the 7800's vBios.

hi!

today i have destroyed my geforce go 6800 in my Amilo M3438. Do you have any tip for me which card i should buy now? I already wanted to buy a new more powerful graphic card but i am not sure, which one would be the best working card on my notebook.

Do you have any tips for me? Money doesnt matter... the importast thing is to have a new card in my notebook so i can use it ... and that is it the most powerful card aviable for my nb yet...

Hi Christian,

I have a 6800 'Arima Special that works just fine in your notebook but some minor mechanical adaptations are needed. This card is 300€ shipped.

The x1800 should also work, presumably with even less problems, but I haven't tried it yet. It is obviously a decent upgrade but anything but cheap at 425€. Please note that it's not me that has set this insane price. I carry no stock of this card because of the price.

Should you decide to go for a temporary solution untill more powerfull and cheaper cards become available, I can set you up with a 6200 32MB +TC card for 150€

1) I only have a 7800, and it will only work in Quanta notebooks.
2) There are two versions of MXM cards, besides the obvious Type I , II and III, namely 41mm and 46mm mounting holes. Mine are 41, your notebook has 46. However, some pictures I got suggest the heat sink can perhaps be used for both. If it can not, you will have to drill an additional set of holes in th e sink. AS it is basically a slab of aluminium it shouldn't be too much trouble, but you need to know it may be required.
3) No.
4) Europe: less than a week.
US: between 1 and two weeks.
5) Yes. The 6800 has been tried on your notebook, so there shouldn't be a problem, but if you chicken out I will refund you once I get the card back in good condition. I will, however, substract a 50€ restocking fee. This fee is mainly designed to cover my costs and discourage frivolous buyers.
6) You can check the 'Types' page on my site, but it is basically a mechancally non-standard card. It's as high as a Type II but significantly higher. It has, however been tried on your notebook with succes.

Nope. I'm having serious problems getting new generation cards. Only thing I can easily get right now are x1800 with the ugly price tag.

The only one that has been verified is the x1800. It works fine but it's very expensive.

I totally missed this post... Sorry.

Have you tried reseating all the cards? Are you sure your thermal inteface was OK? Was the heatsink properly attached to the card?

Let me know if you need some help. If you want, I have a spare 6200 TC card laying around doing nothing. If you need a card to be able to use your notebook again, I can send it to you. As I feel you've been helping me a lot, I'd be happy to send it to you, free of charge. I only ask to return it to you should you ever decide to buy a replacement card.

Hallo, habe von Ice-Tea eine 6800go zum testen bekommen, nochmals vielen Dank für Dein Vertrauen, diese läuft anstandlos in meinem M1437G, zuvor hatte ich ja schon in meinem Notebook eine 6600go verbaut, ebenso erfolgreich. Ich habe die " Arima Spezial" von Ice Tea bekommen, wichtig hier ist die Temparatur in den Griff zu bekommen. Ich werde übrigens meine 6600go verkaufen, wer Interesse hat, bei mir melden. Es ist aber sehr viel Fingerspitzengefühl gefragt, da die Thermik das wichtigste an der ganzen Sache ist und bleibt. Die Temparaturen werden von meinem Notebook gegenüber dem 3438 noch unterschritten. Allerdings muss hier der Lüfter die ganze Zeit laufen, unbedingt. Wer Interesse hat dem biete ich auch meine Dienste in Sachen Umbau an. Da ich keinen Empfehlen kann diese Aufgabe alleine zu lösen denn das Notebook oder die Grafikkarte kann ganz schnell Schaden nehmen. Über den Preis kann man sich dann unterhalten.

Dies soll euch beflüglen und bestätigen das es tatsächlich funktioniert. Mein nächstes Projekt wird die 7 Serie sein. Ich hoffe bald.
